If you are an Ubuntu user, then by now, you must have heard the news that Ubuntu has started a crowdfunded project for raising money for the development of the upcoming Ubuntu Phone called ‘Ubuntu Edge’.
So far the funding has been very successful as it is going in a phase that is a little more than a million US Dollars per day!. Like many others, I am too pretty excited about it as I love the idea of having a ‘universal computer-phone’ (could not come up with a better word 🙂 ).
Mark’s presentation was also pretty impressive. He seemed like an individual who has a goal and the will to reach it. The timing could not have been more perfect either, as there seems to be a window of opportunity which GNU/Linux can certainly seize, as long as there is enough enthusiasm involved.
So anyway, if you want to know the latest status of the Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding progress, without having to manually open the project page, then ‘Stuart Langridge’ has created an indicator that does just that!.
This indicator supports Ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.10 and 12.04 LTS releases and you can install it by using the PPA provided by ‘Chris Wayne’ (thank you!). For that, as usual, open your Terminal window and enter the below commands.
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:cwayne18/ubuntu-edge-indicator
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-edge-indicator
Once the installation finishes, log-out and the re-login to the desktop and you should see it indicating the progress as shown in the screenshot.
It also lets you open the project page (automatically, through your web browser), shows a chart of the current progress and few other details (through its simple menu) as well. That is it, enjoy!.
