Install Mixxx 2.0 on Ubuntu 15.10, 15.04, 14.04 LTS & 12.04 LTS

Just as promised, Mixxx developers have announced the official release of Mixxx 2.0!, just before the arrival of the new year 2016. This release brings couple of new features, but much more importantly, technically, this release features a much more improved Mixxx (enhanced audio effects engine and audio sync & beat matching plugins, wider range of audio hardware inputs etc).

Mixxx 2.0 also comes with three official skins, Deer, Latenight and Shade, which are all capable of fitting into any user defined size as well. My favorite one is the Shade skin due to its compact size and three built-in color schemes which help to set the ‘mode’ sometimes 🙂 .

There are 5 new audio effects (Flanger, Moog 4-pole Ladder Filter, Echo, Reverb, BitCrusher) and four equalizer effects (Bessel 4th Order EQ, Bessel 8th Order EQ, Linkwitz-Riley 8th Order EQ, Biquad 8 band graphic EQ) and more will be added in the future.

Waveform generator now also displays the Bass, Hihats and Lyrics with different colors (Red, Glinting Blue & Soft Green, respectively) of your track, according to the release notes.

You can easily install Mixxx 2.0 on Ubuntu 15.10, 15.04, 14.04 LTS and 12.04 LTS by using its PPA. If you’ve already added it to your system, then you should be able to upgrade the existing Mixxx version to the official 2.0 by using the below command:

sudo apt-get upgrade mixxx

Otherwise, use the below three commands to first enable the PPA and then perform a clean installation:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mixxx/mixxx

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install mixxx

For obtaining packages for MS Windows, Mac OS X, please refer to Mixxx’s official download page. And for a complete list of new features, please visit this page. Enjoy!.
