How to Enable Touchpad Scrolling & Zooming in Dell Vostro V131?

Few days ago I got my brand new Dell Vostro V131 (core i3 version) notebook. So far it’s good, certainly not perfect (heats up a little more than I expected, not above being that uncomfortable though), but for the price, it’s pretty good.

Anyhow, I don’t know why but by default Dell does not enable features such as Scrolling and zooming in their touchpad which are a pretty much a standard these days. Not only in the V131, I’ve seen this issue with many of their other never notebooks as well. But luckily, we can easily enable scrolling, zooming and many other gesture related features thanks to the built in Touchpad software in Windows.

Another thing that’s worth noting is that, unlike with other notebook products, these gestures are enabled using a software that runs on top of your OS rather than the through the Touchpad’s firmware where no special software is not required.

Let’s do it …

Anyhow, whether you have the V131 or a similar Dell product and want to enable scrolling & zooming features in your Touchpad area, then the below procedure should work for you.

1. First, click on the “arrow” near the notification area in Windows 7 and from its window (as shown below), double click on the icon called “Dell Touchpad”.

2. This should open the Touchpad configuration window. From that window, click on “Scrolling & Zoom Settings” as shown below.

3. Now if all you want is to enable Scrolling, then from this new window, simply put a check mark before “Enable” option under the “Scrolling & Zooming” sub heading.

Once you’ve made the changes, click on the “Apply” and “OK” buttons at the bottom. That’s it!.

Other than scrolling and & Zooming, you can use this window to setup other fancy multi gesture settings such as minimizing opened windows, circular scrolling, scrolling area etc as well.

  1. I do not have this option when clicking on the arrow near the notification area in the task bar. Do I need to install the driver first?
