Does Window 8 Installer fail to Create a bootable USB Installation Media? (fix)

I don’t know whether I would love it or hate it, but because I got a pretty good deal for the Windows 8 Pro version, I decided to give it a go. Now I’m not going to review it, but just wanted to share a simple trick, if after the downloading finishes, the installer fails to create a Bootable USB media on your computer.

In my case, after waiting for like almost three hours, I downloaded the Windows 8 installer, and while trying to put its content to my 8 USB drive, it gave me the following error (boo! :D).

Because I really didn’t want to burn it into a DVD, then I tried to use the official bootable USB device creator from Microsoft, but that too failed me. However, that time, as soon as it gave me the error, my antivirus ‘Avira’ showed up, and said that it had blocked a certain activity in my USB device, for security concerns.

Thanks to that, I guessed what could be the issue. So I simply disabled Avira’s ‘Real-time protection’ (temporarily disables the antivirus), tried the same process again using the original Windows 8 Installer, and this time it worked like a charm!.

Now I don not know, if this is ‘Avira’ only issue. But if you too are having similar issues, then try temporarily disabling your antivirus program. If you use ‘Avira’ and do not know how to do it, then please follow the below steps.

Step 1:

Locate the reddish icon of ‘Avira’ (with a small umbrella at the middle) from the system tray area and right click on it.

Step 2:

Then from the menu, remove the check-mark under the option ‘Realtime protection enable’ to disable it, as shown below.

Step 3:

Now re-open the Windows 8 installer, and follow up with the USB creation and this time it should work. It should perhaps be wiser to disconnect your Internet connection, until you reactivate the realtime protection of your antivirus program.

Then as soon as you are done, select and right click on Avira’s icon again, and click the same option to re-enable it. That’s it, good luck.
