Skype is Updated with a Major IM related Bug fix

If you’re a ‘Skype’ user, then Microsoft advices you to update your Skype VOIP desktop client which otherwise can easily mess up the built in IM system. According to Skype developers, Skype 5.10 for Windows, 5.8 for Mac, 1.2 for Windows Phone and the recently released 4.0 for GNU/Linux are affected by this bug.

Concerning other platforms and versions, they said …

During further investigation, we confirmed that not all Skype products were affected by this error as originally reported. We can assure that users of Skype 5.9 for Windows, Skype 2.8 for Android and Skype 4.0 for IOS have not been affected.

According to the developers, the hot fix addresses the bug that …

… occurs only when a user’s Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user.

And this also seems to crash Skype during an IM session as well.

So, make sure to update your Skype desktop client as soon as possible. You can learn more about it from this bug-fix announcement page and can click here to manually download the updated Setup.
