Ubuntu-Tweak 0.7.1 Released (disable ‘Overlay Scrollbars’, add ‘Show Desktop’ icon and more)

“Ubuntu-Tweak” is one of those emerging applications that let you change a lot of Ubuntu Linux distribution’s settings with ease. Though not only things related to the Unity desktop, it lets you adjust a lot more other settings such as cleaning temporary files, add themes, file manager tweaks etc as well.

But, because Unity still lacks the ability to give you “fine-tune” its settings, applications like these are quite useful :).

Few hours ago, “Chou” (the developer) announced the immediate availability of the latest version of “Ubuntu-Tweak”, 0.7.1. And apart from the usual bug fixes, it brings four new (useful!) features.

*. Enable/Disable the “Overlay Scrollbars”.

If you don’t like the default scrollbars used in Ubuntu’s Unity desktop, now you can use “Ubuntu-Tweak” to easily disable it and get the old scrollbars back (you’ll have to logout and re-login for the changes to apply properly).

*. Add the “Show Desktop” icon to the Unity’s application launcher.

This one looks ugly though ;-)

*. “QuickLists” editor:

If you ever wanted to easily edit the “QuickLists” (the menus that appear when you right click on an application icon on the “application launcher” in Unity) such as the name and the command for instance, then this will come in handy.

*. The other features only apply to the Unity 2D desktop. Now you can change the “Number of Workspaces”, enable/disable the “composition window manager” (adds drop-down shadows to windows) and enable “Alt + Tab” window previewer.

To install Ubuntu-Tweak 0.7.1 in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot and 12.04 Precise Pangolin, please visit this page and get the “.deb” package. Once the download completes, just double click on it and then follow the on-screen instructions in Ubuntu Software Center. Enjoy!.
