Simple & Fast Loading CD/DVD Burning App for Ubuntu Linux – “SimpleBurn”

Brasero is the CD/DVD burning utility that comes with Ubuntu. Since it’s a Gnome app it’s extremely simple but lets us burn optical disks with ease too. Recently I came up with another one called “SimpleBurn”. It loads fast, needs very little of system resources when compared to others, so if you have an aging computer that’s trying to keep up, then it’ll come in handy for you.

Although I won’t be using it as my primary CD/DVD burning utility because if you have files/folders scattered in various locations, well that’s gonna be a bit of a problem with “SimpleBurn”. That’s because to burn files with this utility, you’ll have to locate all the files that you wanna burn into a single folder and then load it to its window.

But that being said, when considering its features and again its ‘lightweight’ nature, for some it could be quite a handy utility used about 3-4 MB after loading its GUI!).

Main features…

*. Supports CD & DVD media.

*. Extract and burn ISO disk images.

*. Extract/rip Audio CD data into other formats such as : MP3, Wav, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC (you’ll have to install those audio codecs manually).

*. Extract DVD video data into two video formats: MPEG4 (Xvid codec) and MPEG2, subtitles, chapter information etc.

*. Burn audio CDs and data CD/DVD (detects automatically).

*. Erase disks (fast and full erasing).

*. Burn disk on-the-fly (copy a disk and then automatically burn it, supports multiple disk burners).

You can install “SimpleBurn” in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, 11.04 Natty Narwhal, 10.10 and 10.04 by first downloading the “.deb” file from this official page (look at the bottom section for the deb files) and once the downloading completes, just double click on it to install. Good luck.
