OpenSource, PortableText Editor for Windows – Juffed

Juffed is a powerful, yet a simple Text editor written in Qt that supports both MS Windows and GNU/Linux platforms. The Windows version comes in an archive format (‘zipped’) thus it can easily be used as a portable application if you like too.

It’s actually more than just a text editor because it comes with built in support of some programming languages and common code recognition (syntax highlighting) as well.

Then again not an extremely advanced, programmer oriented editor but if you’re looking for a fully featured text editor that’s somewhat better than the ones that MS Windows by default, then Juffed does deserve a try nonetheless :).

Main features…

*. Change Fonts, Colors, size, Bold, Italic, etc.

*. Find and replace.

*. Go to line.

*. Comes with few plug-ins that adds features such as: Showing recently opened file to the left, a simple file manager that lets us browse for files on the HDD with ease).

*. Word-wrap.

*. As said, syntax highlighting for some programming languages such as: C++/C#, Java, CSS, HTML, XML, Makefile, Pascal, Python, PHP, SQL, Tex etc.

*. Add comments.

*. Tab window support.

*. Undo/Redo.

*. Zoom in/out.

*. Built in markers.

*. And you can change a lot of other options via the “Settings” window too.

For MS Windows and other GNU/Linux users can get it from this official Juffed download page. In Ubuntu you can install Juffed (supports 11.04 Natty Narwhal, 10.10 and 10.04) by simply issuing the below command in your Terminal window.
